Dubai Creek has traditionally
been the vibrant heart of the city, and despite the exponential development
going on still retains its charm.
Dhows sail in and out,
with quay-side scenes reminiscent of the Arabia of old. People
come to play golf at a club bordering the creek and of course its banks
are home to thousands of people.
Countless thousands of others
also encounter the Creek on a daily basis as they make their way over the
Garhoud and Maktoum bridges on their way to Deira, Sharjah and new Dubai.
Colourful little sixteen seater
boats known as abras cross the creek endlessly. A
new 35-seater water bus ferry service has also started plying the creek from
16th July 2007.
There are four bridges (The
new floating bridge, the new 13 lane Business Bay bridge, the Garhoud bridge and the Maktoum bridge)
across the creek as also a tunnel (the Shindagah tunnel).
Did you know that the first aircraft to land
in Dubai was a seaplane that landed in the creek?
