Guinness World records

Dubai has to its credit over 100 world records, including a dozen Guinness Book of World Records-linked feats hosted during the Dubai Shopping Festival in the past.

These include the Largest Cake weighing 74.533 kg, the Biggest Bowl of Spaghetti weighing 703.4 kg and the Biggest Chicken Biryani weighing 1885.4 kg etc.

  • Largest Wallet: The last record to be attempted on durin gDSF 2007, on 1st February 2007, will be the display of the ‘Largest Wallet’, made of genuine cow grain leather with a lining of goat leather. With one currency note pocket, one coin pocket, and three card slots, the wallet will be 240 centimetres long and 11 metres wide. The wallet is being manufactured by Paris Gallery.

  • ‘Largest Pillow Fight’: One among the most interesting record breaking attempts, the ‘Largest Pillow Fight’ to be held at the Safa Park seeks to better the current record, created at the University of Albany, New York, where 3,648 ‘pillow-fighters’ participated. On the last day of the DSF World Records Venture 2007,on 1st february 2007, 4,500 participants armed with pillows will battle it out for at least one minute to create a new pillow fight record. The pillow fight is being organised in association with Foresight, a non-profit organization that raises funds to help people with the eye disorder, Retinitis Pigmentosa.

  • ‘Largest Game of Chinese Whisper’: Students from Our Own Indian School (OOIS) broke the Guinness world record for the largest ‘Chinese Whispers’ game ever played. A total of 850 students from the school took part in the game. The previous record stood at 814 participants. The game of Chinese Whispers involves whispering of a particular sentence by one player to the next, and it goes on and on until the last player says the sentence aloud. For a new world record to be made, the sentences spoken by the first and last players should match accurately.

  • ‘Biggest Mattress in the World’: A bid is being made on 30th January 2007 to break this record. A mattress, manufactured in the Netherlands, measuring 11.7 metres in length, 10.6 metres in width, and 1.94 metres tall holds the current record. The mattress attempting to break the record, manufactured by Intercoil, will weigh a massive 6.2 tonnes.

  • ‘Largest Inflated Bottle Shaped Balloon’: a balloon in the shape of the energy drink, Vitaene C, will create a new world record on 30th January 2007. The balloon, manufactured by NTDE, will be 25 metres tall, 11.9 metres wide and made of advanced flame retarded vinyl coated nylon.

  • Longest Line of Footprints’: Twelve thousand schoolchildren will contribute to creating the ‘Longest Line of Footprints’ forming a long line at Safa Park on 30th January 2007.. The current record stands at 11,710 footprints measuring 3,490.54 metres. The attempt involves footprints on A4 sized white sheets with the names of the participants.

  • World's Largest Buffet: Over 150 staff from five Dubai-based hotels broke the Guinness World Record for the ‘World’s Largest Buffet’ as they served 515 dishes at the Zabeel Park yesterday as part of Dubai Shopping Festival’s (DSF) Food e-Tainment. The world record was previously held by Las Vegas Hilton, which served a 510-item buffet in celebration of Alka Seltzer’s 75th anniversary in March last year.

  • "Stand Up against poverty" record: October 15th-16th 2006: An awe-inspiring 20,003 people, came together across the United Arab Emirates to make a stand against poverty and to help set a Guinness World Record for the most number of people to ‘Stand Up’ Against Poverty, ever. UAE’s participation was an unprecedented effort as more than 21 simultaneous ‘Stand Up’ events took place across the country over a 24 hour period (15th &16th). The benchmark set by worldwide officials from the Guinness Team was set at 10,000 globally - However UAE alone went on to exceed all expectations to double that figure.

  • World’s largest display of traditional rice dumplings: 6th July 2005: Dubai successfully created a world record on 6th July 2005 when it successfully put on show the world’s largest display of traditional rice dumplings on the concluding day of the Sweets Surprises, the second theme week of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS-2005).The much-awaited event was held at the Modhesh Fun City (Dubai World Trade Centre Hall Number 2). The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) – organizers of the Sweets Surprises for the third successive year –joined hands with Emirates Refining Company, Intercontinental Hotel Dubai and Emirates Culinary Guild (ECG) prepare and distribute 23094 Chinese Deep-Fried Rice Dumplings to beat the previous world record set in Singapore in 1992 with 13,192 pieces.

  • World’s biggest chocolate box filled with bars: Also on 6th July 2005: The box weighed 1700 kilograms and was filled with 35,136 chocolate bars.”

  • Longest Car Parade: Dubai transport Corporation entered the Guinness Book of World Records for organizing an 8 kilometers long car parade across the city streets during Dubai Shopping Festival 2000 involving 1,100 taxi vehicles.

  • World's Longest Outdoor Brand Communication: the Dubai Marina lifestyle, a 2.k Km long brand wall is likely to become a candidate for the longest outdoor brand communication piece in the world.

  • World's tallest ice sculpture: History was made recently when Dubai was inducted into the Guinness World Records for the world's tallest ice sculpture. Standing at 40 feet, the sculpture is a replica of the Burj Al Alam, the world’s tallest commercial tower by Dubai-based developer Fortune Group.

  • The world biggest gold ring: A Saudi Arabian jewelry manufacturer is in Dubai with a gold ring described, as the world's largest. All of 62 kilos and studded with seven precision cut stones, the ring named Najmat Taiba (Star of Taiba), was on an display exclusively at Bur Juman Centre. The ring was made with 50 kilos of pure gold.
